Book Review of Nothing to See Here
I asked for this book for Christmas because Joanna Goddard from Cup of Jo said she was reading it and it was delightfully weird. I don’t normally like my books weird (or my movies or TV shows for that matter). I find it very difficult to get into fantasy or sci-fi. However, this book was grounded enough in reality that it didn’t lose my attention. And, I could genuinely say it was weird (weird weird). It was a quick read.
From the publisher: Lillian and Madison were unlikely roommates and yet inseparable friends at their elite boarding school. But then Lillian had to leave the school unexpectedly in the wake of a scandal and they’ve barely spoken since. Until now, when Lillian gets a letter from Madison pleading for her help.
Madison’s twin stepkids are moving in with her family and she wants Lillian to be their caretaker. However, there’s a catch: the twins spontaneously combust when they get agitated, flames igniting from their skin in a startling but beautiful way. Lillian is convinced Madison is pulling her leg, but it’s the truth.
People Magazine says: “A peculiar, entertaining and insightful book about the hazards of child-rearing and the value of friends.”
⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 This book is one that I enjoyed, but I doubt it is everybody’s taste. I’d pick it up if you’re looking for something out of the ordinary, if you read a lot anyway, or if you like to read what’s being talked about. It’s a super-fast read, and it certainly is buzzy in literary circles.
